La Red de Sobrevivientes, working together with a regional collaboration of organizations supporting people with physical disabilities, hosted a dynamic business conference last Friday. More than 15 local and international businesses (such as newspapers, retailers, restaurants, call centers, financial institutions and others) gathered to discuss how their human resources departments can be more active in recruiting and supporting persons with disabilities.
Although there are disability rights and equal employment opportunity laws in El Salvador, they are not strictly enforced and people with disabilities continue to face discrimination in the workforce. La Red de Sobrevivientes’ Economic Opportunity Program is reaching out to local businesses every month to raise awareness about the advantages of hiring persons with disabilities. They are also supporting Survivors, such as Jose Noe (featured in the video), get the job training and peer support they need to reenter the workforce.
